An Interview With Elana Cohen

As a part of our interview series with leaders, stars, and rising stars in the music industry, we had the distinct pleasure of interviewing Mandy Corrente

Mandy Corrente (born Amanda Corrente, 23 September 2013) is an American child singer, dancer, actress, and YouTube personality. She is known for her debut single Sunday Funday, and other titles, such as Birthday Party and ‘All My Love. She currently has 15 singles on all music platforms. Corrente was featured on The Ellen Show after 50 Cent’s Candy Shop performance and appeared on other media outlets with over 120 million combined media views.

Corrente is receiving vocal coaching from Jan Smith Studios, who has coached singers like Usher, Justin Bieber, and Drake. At the age of 7, Corrente also started to work with PooBear, an American songwriter, singer, and music producer.

Thank you so much for joining us in this interview series! Before we dive in, our readers would love to learn a bit about your “origin story”. Can you tell us the story of how you grew up?

I grew up with two siblings, Daniel my big Bro he’s 17 years old and my sis Valentina she’s 14 years old. Both inspired in the music industry and dance industry. My mom Daniela is my manager, she’s a graphic designer and she does all my covers and graphics of my songs, and my dad he’s in Real Estate, they both always support me to follow my dreams. We’re a normal family who lives in Miami with European and Latin roots.

Can you share a story with us about what brought you to this specific career path?

When I was 3 years old a friend and very well-known Latin Artist told my dad and mom that I was an artist, and then everything started to build up. Since that day I start to take vocal lessons, I already was on dance class, and everything combined toke me to where I am. We started to produce music and since then we haven’t stopped.

Can you tell us the most interesting story that happened to you since you began your career?

I was with my family in a Roller Coaster Theme Park in L.A. and a lady told me, I know who you are, you’re MANDY, can we take a picture. I was so impressed because it was the first time someone recognizes me on public.

It has been said that sometimes our mistakes can be our greatest teachers. Can you share a story about the funniest mistake you made when you were first starting? Can you tell us what lesson you learned from that?

My first ever live presentation was on the WISH House in L.A it was full of kids, and I started to sing and then the Music STOPS, it was like my first real challenge. In that moment I had two options or stop singing or sing without music and that was exactly what I did, I just sing at loud, and everybody was cheering me up and having fun. I will never forget that moment. I learned that no matter what you just keep going.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story about that?

I’m so grateful for my mom Daniela. She has been with me in every path of my career. She’s my Momager and what I love is that we can cuddle all the time even when I’m recording a song.

Can you please give us your favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share how that was relevant to you in your life?

Always Dream and Trust in God will all your heart. I think those quotes help me always to keep going and be truth to myself knowing God is in control, and also always dreaming in thinks that I like so one day they come true.

What are some of the most interesting or exciting projects you are working on now?

I’m exciting to be working with Poo Bear, he’s an amazing producer, we have fun and get a long in the best way. Love his work and how he teaches me every time we’re in the studio recording.

We are very interested in diversity in the entertainment industry. Can you share three reasons with our readers about why you think it’s important to have diversity represented in music, film, and television? How can that potentially affect our culture?

Diversity makes you unique and true to yourself, I sing in Spanish and English because I want to stay true to who I am, and I think my Positive lyrics will always have a great impact in kids all over the world.

Diversity also lets you explore different things in live and learn new things.

Also, I always said Be Yourself, and I think this will help other kids to follow they dreams also doing what they love but staying true to themselves.

What are your “5 things I wish someone told me when I first started” and why? Please share a story or example for each.

I’m too young, I think my parents have push me and always support me in each moment of my life. They talk to me all the time about all the situations in my live, bulling, envy, staying true to myself, God first, true friends, and I have learned in each step and moment of my life. I’m 9 know, so maybe when I’m a little older I can answer some things that no one told me.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?

Just be yourself. Don’t copy others and have a plan that you can stay on path.

You are a person of enormous influence. If you could inspire a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger. :-)

I will Inspire Kids to follow they dreams. Nothing is impossible when you believe in yourself.

Is there a person in the world, or in the US whom you would love to have a private breakfast or lunch with, and why? He or she might just see this, especially if we tag them. :-)

I will love to have a private Lunch with Shakira. She has inspired me since I was little, she’s a singer but also a great dancer and she sings in Spanish and English also. She’s a Mom, she have her own Foundation and she’s super sweet.
