The Looking Glass

As I enjoy a nice spring day in East Texas, I look at our current crisis down at the border. I personally believe this was self-inflicted by the current administration, something that they would never admit. You know they do not like admitting faults. But there is something down there besides a complete mishandling of a border that has caught my attention. That is the muddy view that we are looking through instead of the complete transparency that we were promised.

I will say the lack of access to the media for the border facilities are embarrassing as we are supposed to be the leader of the free world. The shining light for migrants and migration all while we say, now is not the time for media and so on. This feels like a communist country right now. I am frankly surprised that Voltaire himself has not risen from the grave and started printing leaflets and passing them out for the world to see, criticizing this blatant lack of transparency. Now I must be honest that has just a tab bit of hyperbole in it.

This is a taxpayer funded facility so why is there no press access to it? Why is it we get government staged photos of the facilities only when they are all tidied up? The press should be able to go there and take photos, interview migrants and border workers alike without obstacles from the government. The press should be able to tell the migrant’s story. I mean let me put it bluntly, if the same effort was put in place to deter media access as in dealing with the border crisis, the border crisis would probably be resolved.

Now we have a little thing called the First Amendment that protects Press. Is that being overlooked right now or shunned? I think so.

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

I know what your saying, the current administration has not made a law prohibiting this. You are correct in that manner. Our current administration instead has just used other means to suppress the press down at the border. Avoidance and misdirection have been obvious in this. If this were another country, our administration would send Blinken in to call them out. Ohhhh the hypocrisy and we wonder why China called our bluff. Because we are not without shame ourselves or at least this administration is trying their darndest to not live up to their Constitutional expectations.

This reminds me of the song “ Through glass.” Right now, America the world is looking at what our government does through the glass, this looking glass is crystal clear. Whereas the looking glass the American Government is allowing our press and people to look through is very muddy and distorted. So I just think I’ll embrace the song ♪ ’Cause I’m looking at you through the glass, Don’t know how much time has passed, All I know is that if feels like forever……And it’s the stars, The stars that lie to you.”♪ I believe the government is the stars lying to us right now as we look through the glass. So what do they have to hide? That is the question in their so-called quest for transparency. I think I will ponder this for a bit.

This is my Friday’s Thought to Ponder for the Weekend!!!
