Social work is a regulated profession; this means professionals who claim the title “social worker” has to be registered in the province or state where they reside. You can access a list of social workers by researching the college where social workers must be registered in your specific location. Pay
attention to the social worker’s specialty and in general, if they list “career services” as a service they offer then they may be better suited to help you. Most social workers will offer a free consultation before you commit to their services, take advantage of this and come prepared to ask specific questions. This will help you determine if they are the right fit. If you are worried about costs, most private insurance companies cover the cost of social work services. Additionally, depending on your city you may be able to access free to low cost services to help you in your career.
