Taking one for the team

I work for a large healthcare organization and for the past three months they’ve been sending out notices for the flu shot. We finally received a schedule for the different campuses about a month ago. My coworker and I decided to go together since we had to drive to the location.

A couple of weeks ago, we piled into my coworker’s tiny car and made the fifteen-minute ride to the hospital. We arrived serval minutes early for the flu clinic because we did not want to wait.

As usual with all things medically related, that turned out to be a joke. I was third in line and by the time they called me in, there was a considerable line that snaked down the long corridor.

While I was waiting, my mind did its normal analysis of the situation. It occurred to me that this long line was blocking the regular flow of hospital traffic.

I observed all these different clinical personnel who were wearing scrubs, lab coats, and business attire. It was a healthy mixture of administration, doctors, nurses, technicians, housekeeping, food service, lions, tigers, and bears. Oh my!

I started thinking about how the hospital could be more efficient when giving this many people a flu shot.
