Griffon Soccer is headed into the middle of the season with the odds in their favor. The team has an overall record of 7–3–2 and a conference record of 4–1. Missouri Western started off the season ranked 6th in the MIAA and 23rd in the Preseason United Soccer Coaches Top 25, making them one of two teams in the MIAA to receive this honor. Throughout the season, they moved up 11 spots, putting them at 13th in the coach’s poll, which is the highest ranking in program history.

Junior Kaili Campbell has played a huge role in the Griffon’s success thus far. Campbell leads the team in goals with 5, and points with 11. Early in the season, Campbell’s hat trick against Rockhurst put her down as the second person in Griffon history to accomplish this. The Griffon has been a leading factor in many other games, including her winning goal in the 99th minute against Missouri Southern.

Right behind Campbell is Sophomore Jaden Skinner with 4 goals and 9 points, and she leads the team in shots with 20. On October 3, in the game against Washburn, Skinner had 2 critical second-half goals, making it her first collegiate two-goal game.

While Sophomore Tina Palmieri is not one of the leading scorers, she has made some vital assists to help lead her team to victory. In the game against Southwest Minnesota State, the Griffon sent a pass to Eszter Toth, helping her make the game-winning goal. Palmieri played a role in another game-winning goal as she rocketed the ball to Skinner to beat Washburn. Palmieri currently leads the team with 3 assists.

On the defensive side, Junior Anna Mayer is a force to be reckoned with, with an overall save percentage of 0.812%. The goalkeeper has recorded 3 shutouts throughout the season. Mayer had a huge game against Missouri Southern with 11 saves. During the 93rd minute, Mayer made a key stop, keeping the Lions from scoring and winning the game.

Over the weekend, the team played at Fort Hays State on October 8 and Nebraska-Kearney on October 10. The Griffons were victorious in both games, beating both teams 1–0. Skinner was the leading force at Fort Hays, as she scored Missouri Western’s goal, and at Nebraska-Kearney Skinner had a killer assist to Toth for the win.

Griffon soccer will go on to play Northeastern State at Tahlequah, OK on October 15, and they will face Rogers State at Claremore, Oklahoma on October 17. As of now, Missouri Western is ranked 4th in the MIAA, Northeastern State is ranked 9th, and Rogers State is ranked 6th.
