Design Methodology Reflection 7

The improv exercise we did in class was very helpful for me to understand what I wanted the outcome of my project and showing at DAAP Works to be. I got to step out of my own shoes for a little bit and think like the mind of my audience and the people who will be viewing my booth and I was able to think about how I wanted those people to feel. This exercise and strategy is going to be important for me moving forward so that I can design and research with those people in mind and how I want them to think and feel.

Dear Kelsey,

I felt seen because your project referenced bodies of women like me. It is refreshing to know that there are changes happening in the athletic community and I would feel more confident if there were experiences to encourage inclusivity in retail. When I walk into a store and see all the mannequins look like Barbie doll, I feel very discouraged and question whether or not I should even try on some of the clothes because I know I will look nothing like the mannequins. There definitely needs to be a change in the way retail stores approach inclusivity for their customers, and for people like me. I am so glad to see that you are part of that change. Your work needs to be seen. It is so important for retailers to begin evolving their store fronts to appeal to a wider audience and help us feel included, welcomed, and confident. It is refreshing to see that you recognize the problem and chose a Capstone project that was meaningful for you and could help so many women feel more comfortable while shopping.
