Jenkintown Native Author George Harrar to Visit Hiway Theater

George Harrar — now and then!

George Harrar was raised in Jenkintown and graduated from Jenkintown High School in 1967, as did his wife, Linda, a documentary filmmaker who has made more than a dozen NOVA shows for PBS. The Harrars now live in Massachusetts, but are in the area for the JHS All-Class Reunion.

Spinning Man is the first of Harrar’s works to become a motion picture, and a filming of a French-language adaptation of his novel Reunion at Red Paint Bay just wrapped in Marseilles. He has written seven novels for different age groups — from middle-grade readers through teen and adult — and has had a dozen short stories published, including “The 5:22,” which won the Carson McCullers Prize and was picked by writer Amy Tam for Best American ShortStories, 1999.
