What nobody told me about happiness

Have you ever wonder what you’re doing in life is making you happy. I have pondered on this question for a really long time. I think all of us some, a point in our life have questioned ourselves if what we are doing in life is making us happy. Especially for people in their early 20s, that the time where people are facing an existential crisis of who they are as a person. Asking questions like who are or what beliefs do we hold. In the grand scheme of life does it really matter? If you look the last picture of earth that was taken by the voyager, you would see that earth is just a speck in the universe. The idea that good people from people that do bad, we all live here and we all are just a tiny part of the universe. So you have to ask yourself does anything in life matters. And my answer is yes I believe what you do here on earth can have an effect everyone around you and it does matter. Funny thing about life is that we go through life with the expectation that certain things like money can essentially make us happy. Mind you money is nice to have, but psychologists have learned that more money doesn’t equal people living happier lives. So now you probably wondering what does one needs to understand happiness. I came upon this when I was talking to an old friend of mine. We were talking about our freshman year here. My freshman year wasn’t the happiest year of my life. Many reason attribute to this such as when I first came to this school, I was overwhelmed of how freaking enormous it was, only had a few friends when I first started here and it also didn’t help that they live far away from me. Fast-Forward to now, I’m probably the happiest I have been in all my life so far. And from the conversation I had with my friend, I suddenly realized that happiness is has a ripple effect, what you do to other people can make them happy and that happiness can spread to other people. So the ripple of happiness can move outward but that the ripple can move inwards. Let me give you an example, in my case with the friends that I have made in college, they make me happy but thinking about it, I also made them happy. And they can take the happiness they have an essentially spread to their own group of friends and it continues on and on. It can expand in ways that you have never thought it would have. And I honestly never really thought about in that context, you know we focused on what society thinks it’s the best way for us to be happy. It honestly build up this false sense of being happy, so i want you the next time you interact with someone is to stop and think about what your actions or words you say to other people and see can you apply the ripple effect. You have the power to change people lives for the better.
