A Focus on Happiness

Are you happy at work? Why does it matter anyway?

Science tells us that happier workplaces are more productive, achieve greater revenue growth, have great annual increase in stock price, experience higher retention, etc. Our intuition tells us the same, doesn’t it? The happier we are at work the more willing we are to go above-and-beyond, confront challenges, and work smarter.

These business outcomes matter, sure. More importantly though, the lives and experiences of those who choose to work with us matter.

Let’s focus on happiness then. Here’s what we know:

Like anything else worthwhile, happiness at work is a continuous pursuit of measuring, learning, and improving as our workplaces evolves and the demands on our people change.

Let’s start by listening more and taking greater efforts to create positive experiences everyday. Recognize great work by a co-worker with a thoughtfully written note. Ask your manager how they’re doing and if there is anything you can help them with. Send a welcome email to a new co-worker. These are just some low-effort / high-impact things we can do better at.
