Top 5 Things To Do in Maui.

Most travelers spend hours online, hopping through websites. Should I go whale watching? Take a sunset cruise? Go zip lining? Or maybe take the Road to Hana? Well here’s what you should take time on your trip to do. Please note that these are in no specific order!

Yes, take the time to take a sunset sail. Not only is watching the sun set absolutely breathtaking but, it gives you the opportunity to meet new people who are also looking for that bliss. You can relax, enjoy some cocktails, and watch the sunset. It is such a serene time, and you’ll never be disappointed by the colors in the sky. But I will warn you, most sunset cruises on catamarans are barefoot cruises. Personally, I enjoy the Gemini Sailing charters. The staff is always so friendly and laid back, the appetizers are delicious (and included in the price), and leave right from Ka’anapali.

Visiting a plantation on vacation? Trust me, this one is worth it. Maui Pineapple Tours is located in Makawao, (about a 50 minute drive from Lahaina). It’s a beautiful sight. The plantation itself is a working plantation so you must have a reservation before hand. Learning the history of the pineapple is crucial to learning the history of Maui. The guides of the tour are always fun and engaging. They make history fun for every age! You start with the meeting point at Haliimaile Distillery, then the guide takes you (by bus) into the plantation. Once your finished in the plantation, you go to the shipping and packaging facility and they give you a free pineapple! It’s a wonderful tour, you definitely shouldn’t miss it! You also get into Hallimaile Distillery for only $10 with your Pineapple Tour!

Luau’s are perfect ways to take your time to learn about the history of Hawaii. Hawaiians use music and dance (hula) to express songs and stories and it is absolutely wonderful to watch. The luau I went on had the traditional Kalua pig, a buffet, and a fire show. They are fun and full of life. It also gives you the opportunity to converse with Native Hawaiians about their culture and way of life pre-technology. Traditional Hawaiian food is served at a luau including sweet bread, mahi mahi, and Molokai sweet potatoes; so bring an open mind and an empty stomach!

The serenity when arriving is absolutely perfect. The Kenpaniwai Heritage Gardens has small monuments commemorating immigrants who came to Maui to start a new life. It takes time to show all ethnic groups who aren’t written in the history books. Beautiful gardens, along with multiple koi ponds; Kepanwai is a perfect stop when just cruising around the island.

Finally, the Road to Hana. Have you even enjoyed Maui without taking a trip on the Road to Hana? With breath taking views, this is an all day trip. The Road to Hana is actually 64 miles long and stretches all around the south side of Maui. Black sand beaches, waterfalls, and bamboo forests. There’s something on the road for everyone to enjoy. You can also take a flight from Kahului (OGG) to Hana, but that takes the magic out of the excursion.

Well, these are the top activities I believe everyone should experience when traveling to Maui. Enjoy your trip, mahalo!
