Google

We had a very interesting lecture given by Mansour Mansour who currently occupies the ‘YouTube Product Partnerships, Next Billion Users’ as well as the ‘Country Lead in KSA’ for Google.

He opened his conversation identifying who Google is and how it was founded.
Google was founded in 1998 (20 years ago) by Larry Page and Sergey Brin who were Ph.D. students at Stanford University in California.

Mansour explained the features of Google as the second large tech company in the world, and its products which create a broad brand called ALPHABET.
Alphabet was created through a corporate restructuring of Google on October 2, 2015, and became the parent company of Google and several former Google subsidiaries.

Mansour highlighted how much Google is investing to evolve and improve the algorithm technology according to users’ preferences, we also learned that Google receives 30 million questions on a daily basis, 15% out of them, have no answers to it yet, the team searches and come up with the best answer to support the raised questions.

One of its products is Google maps, the most practical product that can assist anyone in finding the destination you are looking for. Mansour stated that Google maps don’t earn one single dollar through it, which makes a non-profitable app and a friendly user one. Although it is considered to be the most accessible app all over the world.

The most interesting feature that Google is investing in, is their smart algorithm and the artificial intelligence technology behind it. As you know, Google’s search engine gets you the most suitable answer for your question that goes along with your preference, it also engages the circles of where you best see yourself at and gets it all over around you, this could be a positive point to find everything you basically like and prefer in one place, on the other hand, it could be a negative point, since it won’t allow you to be exposed to things that you don’t follow which might affect your knowledge as well as the accuracy of a decision to take.

Google home is another invention that uses AI to help in making your life easy, make a call to book an appointment in both (Arabic and English languages), switching on lights and TVs at your place, getting the weather forecast and explore TV channels, etc.

If you come to think for a second of how Google has been part of your daily life, you would realize the effort they did to approach this level of trust. You have an answer of all your questions, you can find everything related to your preferences, you have an email service, you travel through Google maps, you have an assistant through Google home, you communicate through Google dictionary and translate, and you store your note and even grocery list on Google keep.

I believe this invention in the world of competitive technology didn’t allow you to think twice of where you have to refer to at your first point in any living matter.
